Are Nuts Hard to Digest?

AntiBrand meal replacement bar soaking or blanching nuts is better for digestion

Which Nuts Are Good for Gut Health?

Nuts form a significant part of everyday diet for most of us. They are rich in healthy fats, protein, and dietary fiber. They supply us with a good source of vitamins, especially E and B-complex groups, along with minerals like calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and zinc. They can be categorized as the “complete package” type of food (1).

Nutritional values vary greatly between different nuts and seeds. After testing and running the nutritional data, we chose almonds, peanuts, and sunflower seeds in our meal replacement bars alongside other highly digestible foods.

When making our bars, our top priority is to make sure that we don’t have digestive issues after eating (especially for those with SIBO, IBS, Chron’s, and other digestive complications).

We have found that soaking the nuts before processing the bars has assisted with overall digestion and boosting energy levels. How would it make you feel to not have a stomach ache after eating?

Does Soaking Nuts Make a Difference?

We are here to answer the age old question, are nuts hard to digest? What we have found is that they can be, but not if they are soaked before being processed into the bar. The main issue with nuts is the amount of phytic acid which is categorized as an antinutrient (2).

Luckily, it has been shown that soaking nuts reduces their phytic acid content, reducing the negative effect, and making it easier to absorb and digest the food eaten (2). We believe blanching and cooking the nuts is an important process in making the bars.

Digestion Made Easier

We know that there are foods out there that are not easy to digest and only cause stomach upset. These are foods that are processed, too high in fiber, and too high in the bad fats (trans or saturated). We are taking these out of the equation and making bars with transparent ingredients that will supply you with energy and not cause stomach pain after eating.

It is important to us that our customers still receive the proper amount of vitamins and nutrients from their food while being able to easily digest it, so we added in the perfect amount of nuts to the bar to receive the benefits of them while taking away the possible harmful effects.

Our mission is to make eating easy and helping our customers function optimally. So, are nuts hard to digest? Not when they’re soaked, and you will still receive the nutritional benefits they provide to an overall healthy diet.
